Temporary Closure due to Major Heart Attack
The heart attack that Ryan had was a shock to all of us...
As most of you all know by now, Ryan had a rare type of massive heart attack (Dissection of the LAD) on 10/20/2019. He was critical condition and in an induced coma, ventilated, and heavily sedated for nine days!
Once his heart became strong enough he was removed off of ventilation and allowed to wake up only using a “sleep apnea” type machine a few times over the next few days.
On 10/31/2019 he was moved from ICU down to PCU. Ryan was needing the natural light and less intense monitoring to help him get his natural rhythm back to break through his ICU delirium. He also began the basic occupational, physical, and speech therapy tests to get the all clear to be released.
While in PCU is when Ryan was really able to process all that he had gone through for the first time.
Ryan was finally able to come home on our anniversary 11/04/2019.
His first week home was relatively uneventful, but that was not to last unfortunately.
On Friday, 11/15/2019 we ended up back in the ER because Ryan’s blood pressure suddenly dropped very, very low! Ended up being diagnosed as Chemical Dehydration due to some of his medications working too well!
Then on Monday, 11/18/2019, Ryan began developing difficulty breathing… He had his first stress test the following morning which went well as far as his heart, but had to stop early because he couldn’t breathe well enough to keep his oxygen saturation levels up.
On Friday, 11/22/2019 while at a VA appointment, the nurse ordered us to go back to the ER because Ryan’s breathing became so bad and he felt like his throat was closing as it does when he has an allergic reaction. No conclusive results after 7.5 hrs in the ER, but referrals we set up to figure it all out.
Wednesday, 10/27/2019 he saw the Pulmonologist, who suspects his obstruction might be due to his vocal chords having an issue from being ventilated for so long.
Friday, 11/29/2019, Urology discoverd that Ryan has Kidney Stones (should be able to pass without intervention, which we consider good news.
Bad news today from the Ear, Nose, & Throat Doctors… Ryan has a fully paralyzed vocal chord on the left in the closed position (very bad) and partially paralyzed on the right in nearly closed position (also bad). If both were to close it will cause Ryan to suffocate. “Per the norm” its rarer to have vocal chords paralyzed in the closed position! They will be calling us Monday to squeeze Ryan in for a follow up and plan of action/treatment.
🙏🏼 Please pray for God to intervene and heal Ryan’s vocal chords! 🙏🏼
We are taking each day one at a time, knowing that he has a tough road to recovery ahead of him.

“Big Sky DanceSport is the best dance studio in town! Ryan and Summer have taken a lot of time and energy to teach me to dance and break everything down in a positive way. I’ve come a long way since starting here in a few short weeks! They have a wealth of experience you won’t find elsewhere in Bozeman. Whether you are just beginning to dance ballroom or training for a competition, this is the studio for you!”
Heather B. - Bozeman, MT
“I would never have thought about trying out Ballroom dancing without the encouragement and support of Ryan and Summer. Their ability to break the dance steps down to a comprehensible level is amazing. They constantly find parallels in your everyday life to compare the dance and motion to. They take their time as well to get to know you, and figure out your learning style. Most of the time, I forget how serious I should be taking my lessons, because I’m having so much genuine fun. But not effortless, because well, it is work. They’re timely and prompt with lessons and cancellations. I respect their commitment and passion to what they do, and their ability and want to spread that love and joy with their community.”

Plus, it’s great to be able to take lessons and ballroom dance over the summer in Bozeman!”
